Haruki Murakami

Haruki Murakami is a Japanese author of surrealist fiction. His work has won the Franz Kafka Prize and is often referred to as “Kafkaesque.” His style is more influenced by Western authors, although he maintains a sense of Japanese heritage throughout his works. Haruki learned English by reading crime novels that he purchased from second-hand stores. Haruki Murakami became a published author in 1979 with the novel Kaze no uta o kike, which would be translated into Hear the Wind Sing in 1987.
